Do I have to use the insurance company's PREFERRED shop?

You are allowed to use the auto repair shop of your choice. You are under no obligation to your insurance carrier to use the shop they recommend.   So, the short answer to "Do I have to use the insurance company's preferred shop" is a resounding NO!!!

Many insurance companies will try to persuade you to use their Direct Repair Facilities. Why? Because they have agreements with those facilities that save the insurance companies money.  Some of these agreements include lower labor rates and the use of salvage or aftermarket parts being used on your vehicle. In exchange, they do their very best to persuade all customers to use their Direct Repair Shops. They will use different tactics to make that happen. If you’ve ever had to file a claim, you have probably heard a few, like… "we don't see the shop of your choice in our network", or if you don’t use their DRP, you may incur additional costs, have longer repair times, or have no warranty on your repairs. That sounds scary and super intimidating!!!!
